Khmer Presbyterian Fellowship

The Khmer Presbyterian Fellowship consists of nine churches: one in Phnom Penh, four in Kampong Cham, and four in Kampong Speu. The Kampon Speu churches are led by Pastor Sarourn Soun who completed theological training at Phnom Penh Bible School. Resources for worship and discipleship include Bibles and hymnals from the Cambodian Bible Society, and the Westminster Catechism. Pastor Vannara ministers in Phnom Penh and Pastor Socheat in Kampong Cham. In 2009, Dr. Pross and Pastor Sarourn began a new church development that meets in Dr. Pross' home in Phnom Penh.
Representatives from the Presbyterian Church (USA) have met with leaders of KPF, including Paul Friesen, PC (USA) liaison for Cambodia, and the Rev. Dr. Shun Chi Wang, former Associate for Asian Congregational Enhancement for the Presbyterian Church (USA). Dr. Wang met in Phnom Penh with 11 leaders of the Khmer Presbyterian Fellowship on January 14, 2008. Two days later he traveled with them to Kampong Speu where Pastor Sarourn gave a tour of the KPF mother church and home-churches in surrounding villages. Across the street from the mother church is an orphanage with about 120 children. The orphanage is operated by an organization from Hong Kong. At the time of his visit, the children were permitted by the orphanage to join the church and learn about Christianity. Since that time, the orphanage management has changed and the children are no longer allowed to participate in church activities. HANDS for Cambodia is prayerful that the orphans will be permitted to received health care as clinics are held.
Music and More!
Music is a vital part of the Khmer Presbyterian Fellowship. Traditional hymns as well as contemporary praise songs are sung. A keyboard, drums, and guitars are employed in making “a joyful noise unto the Lord!” and have been instrumental [pun intended] in attracting young people to the church. A generous gift of Bibles and hymnals from Eliot Presbyterian Church, Lowell, MA, will help many to join the chorus of praise!
HANDS is grateful to Pastor Sarourn for inviting us hold clinics at KPF. Dr. Pross joined KPF in worship when he delivered the treasured Bibles and hymnals. We’re not sure if he joined in the volleyball game!
